eBay has launched the Mechanics Challenge, which sees Tom Onslow-Cole and Edd China attempt to turn a milk float into a race car using parts and accessories from eBay Motors. Here is the launch video, showing Tom’s reaction to the challenge and highlighting the amount of work needed to complete the task.

This will be the first of three videos to be released over the course of the challenge, with the next one showcasing how the team is getting on and what progress has been made on the float.

Motoring enthusiasts will be able vote on the parts and accessories from eBay Motors that will be used to transform the car and this will be live on the site very soon.

Give Tom a turbo

It will need rear wheel downforce to make sure all that power gets to the track. How about a couple of sheets of 6' x 3' marine ply for a nice big whale tail?

A guy who lived near to me in the 1980's took an electric milk float and removed the battery pack and put a Rover SD1 V8 twin turbo engine and drive chain on it. The fuel tank was an adapted milk churn on the flat bed of the float.

If you go to Potters Bar, just outside London you will find a milk float fitted with a 5.3ltr engine hidden by the crates of milk bottles and it goes like a rocket

I not sure how heavy a milk float is but I'd think maybe a motorcycle engine like from a R1 etc could be the way to go? Seen this kind of conversion done to micro cars such as a Fiat 126 an it worked well from what I've seen. They certainly got a challenge on there hands anyway! Best of luck with it.
